Austin Energy to Host 2022 Public Power Lineworkers Rodeo
March 22, 2022
Event will bring nearly 400 competitors to Austin
Electric utility lineworkers from across the country will climb their way to top honors Saturday, March 26 at the 2022 Public Power Lineworkers Rodeo. Nearly 400 competitors from 18 states and 47 public utilities across the nation will showcase lineworker skills and knowledge at the annual event put on by the American Public Power Association. Journeyman and apprentice lineworkers compete for professional recognition and practice essential skills that they use every day in their profession. Participants will climb power poles, hang transformers and simulate the rescuing of injured workers. The comradery fostered in this event helps bolster national mutual-aid and disaster response for public power utilities. Lineworkers undergo years of extensive safety and technical training to become qualified to perform these critical jobs. They also perform their work in a variety of challenging conditions, such as ice storms, intense heat and wildfires.
The Lineworkers Rodeo is free and open to the public.
